A look underneath
Have you ever tried to have tea with a potter who then absentmindedly takes your mug to look at the underside, which of course spills your drink all over the table? Or a carpenter who comes into your home and starts stroking all your wood surfaces and peeking under your furniture? It’s happened to me more times than I can count. Craftspeople are always looking at the bottom— the seam— the inside of a thing to see how it lives and breathes. For me that means grabbing people’s fingers and demanding that they hand over their precious rings so I can see the inside surface and the settings. It’s important to me that the part we don’t see is just as cared for as the part we do. In the spirit of revealing the underside, I present you a stage-by-stage visual account of the making of Isaac and Sasha’s engagement ring. This ring was a very fun technical challenge, and I stayed up at night visualizing how it would all come together Queen’s Gambit-style. It’s also a project very close to the heart, so lots of love was poured in.
We sourced a beautiful rich forest green Australian Sapphire for the center, and Canadian Diamonds for the sides. Set in 18 karat yellow gold.
